Not to play favourites, but we think Bancroft was by far our favourite place we have visited so far. The weather may have helped, but Bancroft people are the NICEST people we have come across.
We only had the one morning performance at York River Public School, but even then the hospitality carpet was laid out for us. It was just too enjoyable a day to stay inside, and so after packing up the truck we got a bit of time to walk around and explore.
Tim of course found the best view in town on the patio of The Granite, which overlooked the river and the downtown area. After exploring some of the shops we all joined him there. The sun was shining, we were wearing t-shirts and sitting back for an hour or so. And what food!
I’m glad I ordered the lemonade, as it offered that sweet tartness I was looking for. I’m not usually a wings person, but one option caught my eye; truffle and Parmesan wings. How could you turn that down? Sorry, but there are no pictures of these amazing wings. They went far too fast. All I can say is – try them! I also ordered the warm goat cheese salad with pickled apples, walnuts, sun dried tomatoes and balsamic raspberry dressing and was so delicious that I tried to savour it as long as I could.
There was another option in town to eat at that I wish had been open; the Blue Roof Bistro. They were still on their winter hours, so unfortunately it didn’t match up with the days of the week that we were there. Sorry Blue Roof – next time.
Before heading out we wanted to get a cast photo by the beautiful town sign. Thank you Bancroft, you and your wonderful people are missed.
